In this paper, we explore how large language models (LLMs) can be prompted with human-like personas to handle subjective tasks, like detecting bias or generating opinions. We find that while LLMs can mimic human responses to some extent, they often miss the deeper biases and lived experiences that shape real human behavior. This highlights some of the limitations of using LLMs in complex social science applications.
In this study, we examine the use of generative AI, like ChatGPT and LLaMA-2, in answering real-world questions related to substance use and recovery. While AI-generated responses were often rated as high quality by clinicians, we uncovered serious risks, such as incorrect medical advice and disinformation on critical topics like suicidal ideation and detox. The findings highlight the need for more safeguards before deploying AI in sensitive healthcare settings.

My Honors College Thesis introduces a modified version of the Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) for evaluating structural similarities within the context of radiation therapy planning. This modified DSC (mDSC) function, which was coded in R and integrated into the RadOnc R package, incorporates the radiation dose behavior at specific points, potentially offering a more clinically relevant structure comparison in radiation therapy compared to the traditional DSC.
